Book Review: “The Stars Are Fire”

My aunt and cousin recommended the book The Starts Are Fire by Anita Shreve to me and picked me up a copy.  This story takes place in Maine in 1947 and is about a drought that results in fires all along the Maine coast.  The main character, Grace, is only 24.  She is married with two very young children.  Her husband helps fight the fire and her life completely changes.

Whenever I start a new book, I always have a hard time getting into it.  My mind is always going in a million different directions and I have a hard time focusing.  That is exactly how this one started off for me.  It did not take very long for me to get sucked in.  I finished the book in about 3 weeks!

I can’t imagine going through everything Grace did.  She had so much strength and bravery while seeming to be a little lost in life.  I highly recommend picking this book up.  This is the first Anita Shreve book I have read but it won’t be my last!  Some of her other books are:  The Pilot’s Wife, Light On Snow, Sea Glass, Testimony and many more.

I love to read and it can be very hard to find the time to squeeze it in.  I used to prefer reading before bed but I am going to bed later than I always used to.  Once the lil one is in bed, that’s when I can clean, shower, and do whatever I can for the next day.  As long as it’s not too late.  The best time for me to read now is during my lunch at work.  Some other times I try to squeeze in some reading are when I am waiting for an appointment, if I am waiting in the car for my husband while he is in a store or getting his hair cut, and I still try to read before bed.

What are some of your favorite books and when have you found the time to read?  I LOVE getting reading suggestions so please share J
